March Program

It seems that ninety-nine per cent of spinners make 2-ply yarn. Probably because it’s quick and it’s balanced. Angela Fishman and Sandy Smailer will explore alternative yarns: singles spinning and plying with more than two yarns. They will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each as well as applications. Bring your questions, tips, and/or samples.

Library Report

Hello fellow spinners and weavers. Hope you are keeping warm under wool fleece and a hand knitting or weaving project.
For January 6 Guild meeting –
New magazines –
· Handwoven – Jan/Feb 2010 #148 - Features a resources guide for waving unexpected texture and dimension with textured yarns, elastic or energized yarns. There are drafts for double-weave scarves and velvet warp pile fabric. You can read about how to make permanent pleats in fabric using a pressure cooker, and some pricing tips for your handwovens for sale.
· Knitters – Winter 2009 #97 - Patterns feature many cable designs, a knitted dress pattern, several cardigans, men’s and women’s vests, and an afghan of separately knit squares.
Missing magazine – I just realized we never received the Nov/Dec09 Handwoven issue. I have requested it.
Library book inventory - I inventoried the books in the cabinet during the holiday week. It is in good order.
Some books have been out for a long time. Please return soon. Specifically:

- Donna Fike – 2 books: Lace and Lacey Weaves; Woven Lace and Lacy Weaves. (since Feb09)

- Elizabeth Smith – 2 books: Big book of Hand Spinning (Amos); Spinners Companion. (since Aug 09) I also found the two [paper ream] boxes full of very old magazines. I moved them in front of the cabinet so you would find them. The other groups who use the Extension Office have been making an effort to clean up the back room. We should remove these 2 boxes. You may choose to sell them cheap or distribute them to the homes of the magazines removed last month. The issues include: Piecework; Handwoven; Shuttle, Spindle, Dye Pot; Knitters; and Weavers, of the 1970s, 80s, 90s. Finally, in the cabinet, there is also a soft woven scarf, striped in pale beiges, green, gold colors. Is this a lost and found? ***Follow-up Note: The 2 boxes of old magazines that Christine referred to were taken care of. The Weavers, Handwovens, and Knitters were given to the people who are storing those magazines (Carol- Knitters; Marilyn- Spin Off; Donna-Handwoven and Weavers). The Pieceworks were sold off and the Shuttle Spindles were given away.
